Energy efficiency standards and regulations are constantly becoming more stringent around the world and anyone who has ever thought about energy efficiency in the enterprise, probably read that electric motors consume 70% of all electricity used by industry in the world.

The Ecodesign Directive is the legal framework that sets the requirements for all energy-related products in the domestic, commercial, and industrial sectors in the European Union. The purpose of this base is to ensure that manufacturers reduce energy consumption and minimize the environmental impact of their products by applying minimum energy efficiency standards.

The European Directive 640/2009/EC for manufacturers and users of electric motors, means of switching and protection of components entered into force in January 2015, and on September 15, 2021, Resolution No. 157 of February 27, 2019, of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine "On approval of requirements for ecodesign for electric motors. These solutions are aimed at reducing electricity consumption and harmful environmental impacts in Ukraine.

According to the Technical Regulations, all electric motors with a rated power from 0.75 kW to 375 kW (except for motors with an electromagnetic brake) must have a rated efficiency of at least IE3 or correspond to IE2 for electric motors equipped with a speed controller.

SEW-EURODRIVE drives have long met the stringent requirements of the IE3 energy efficiency standard (DRN... series), and some series even IE4 energy efficiency class (DRU... series).

Our motors of the DRN series meet the most important global standards and various requirements of local regulations in the field of energy efficiency, including Ukrainian ones.
